Effective organizational communication is truly an interactive process. The people taking part in the communication exchange must listen carefully and respond accurately to the other interactants. There are ten elements that contribute to interactive communication (see Figure 1.2 on page 5 of your text). Using an example from your own experience, identify how these ten elements impacted the communication process, making sure to accurately label all ten. 2. Organizational philosophy has significant influence on management practice and communication in an organization. Briefly distinguish between classical, humanistic and systems theories. Now describe possible impact of each of these perspectives on the writing of job descriptions. Be specific. 3. Strategic communication relies on effective tactics in four areas. Name them and define them. Now consider this situation and apply what you know about these four areas to this situation: Next week, Clark will be giving a very important budget proposal presentation. This could be a boost to his career, or a bust. If he hopes to have his proposal accepted, he needs to be strategic in the plan and delivery for this presentation. How should he use the four areas of strategic communication to accomplish his goals? 4. What is communication anxiety, what role does it play in communication, and what are the causes? Choose five of these causes and offer suggestions for effectively managing anxiety resulting from each of these causes. 5. What is organizational culture and how does it determine standards for communication, both internally and externally? Next, as an advisor to someone considering joining an organization, direct your advisee to some avenues to explore to discover what is the culture of an organization in order to determine if this is the right organization for your advisee to join. Lastly, how important is cultural match? 6. The American culture is certainly not uniform. There are considerable differences in how members view the world (e.g. values, beliefs, opinions, etc.). Not using national origin/heritage (e.g. Italian-American), choose three subcultures present in the American workforce and explain how the values and beliefs of each subcultures impact how those employees behave at work. 7. Communication competence is based on interactive listening. Questioning techniques improve listening by making the speaker more efficient, and they facilitate goal accomplishment. Imagine that you are a manager who has been approached by a subordinate who manages others, i.e. you are the managerââ¬â¢s manager. One of the managerââ¬â¢s subordinates, who up until recently has been a good performer, has been making significant mistakes lately. Using all of the five types of questions, help the manager design his/her own set of questions to get to the issues behind this dwindling performance. Make sure to accurately label each type of question used. Lastly, explain how this strategy is likely to help the manager correctly identify the performance issues involved. 8. Name and define each of the three Dââ¬â¢s. Then list two consequences and two strategies for overcoming each of these problems. 9. Put yourself in a work environment. List all, naming at least five, of the nonverbal messages you notice, making sure to accurately label each. Now summarize the impact of this combination of nonverbal messages on the people working there. Is it a positive impact? Lastly, if you could change any of these messages by instituting a new personnel policy, what would you do and what would the policy look like? 10. Does gender make a difference in how employees communicate in the workplace? Using specific examples, support your conclusion. Now think of a time when communication was effective during communication involving coworkers of the opposite sex. Lastly, describe a time when communication between members of both sexes was not effective. What could have been done differently? Be specific. 11. Leaders step up when needed. Will you recognize when you should rise to a leadership position? First, write down the names of leaders (at least 3) that you admire or seek to emulate. Explain what you find admirable in their leadership styles. Now, choose at least one, of these leaders and note a situation in which he or she acted as a leader. Be prepared to discuss what elements of the situation combined with elements of the leaderââ¬â¢s ability to lead resulted in an effective combination. Do you have any of the same leadership characteristics in common with their chosen leader or any of the other leaders? How will you recognize the right combination of situation and style for you to be a leader? 12. Managing change is something good leaders expect and have developed the skills necessary to be successful. Imagine yourself as a leader of the following organization: You are the CEO of a playing card company that has existed since 1889. Your company began producing its first electronic playing cards game in 1970 and has been highly successful. Now in the electronic age, it is important to acknowledge the lack of hand-held playing cards and embrace the video game era. You want to eliminate all hand-held playing cards from the company plan but the employees who have been around for a while wish to keep the cards around. How can you manage this change and the anxiety that it produces in your employees? General answers are not enough to earn points on this question. Identify specific steps you will take to achieve desired outcomes.

Jane Eyre :: English Literature
Jane Eyre What do you learn from Jane's arrival at Thornfield and her first meeting with Mr Rochester? When Jane first arrives at Thornfield she is greeted by Mrs Fairfax, she receives a warm welcome and an inquiry into whether she is cold and a subsequent offer to warm by the fire. This something Jane is not used to, in the past at the Reed's house, Gateshead, and certainly at Lowood her reception had been quite cold and harsh. At Gateshead Jane was treated badly and received no love. Bessie the servant was the only person who even showed some sort of interest in her. In my opinion Bessie cared for Jane as her own, reading to her many times out of the books by the window seat. Of course the 'Reed' children were treated much more fairly and there was biases towards them, but this was down to Mrs Reed's dislike for Jane, which is stated later in the story just before she dies. In chapter three Jane has been in the red room as a punishment and when she comes out she has suffered greatly and needs to see a doctor. However Mrs Reed only sends for a apothecary, if one of her own children had been ill a proper doctor would have been called, which again shows Mrs Reeds poor treatment of Jane. When finally Jane is sent to what Mr Lloyd thinks will be a better place for her, Lowood School, she is faced with more distant relationships and hard conditions. However Miss Temple and Helen Burns are of great contrast to the main theme at Lowood and provide at last someone Jane can trust and relate to. Miss Temple has a kind character and concerns herself with Jane's well being when she arrives at the school. She later becomes the closest Jane gets to a role model in life. Helen is Jane's first friend and has a profound effect on her in many ways as well as being a counterbalance to Jane's character and teaching her to be self-controlled and well disciplined and studious to get on in life. As I put earlier when Jane first comes to Thornfield she is meet by Mrs Fairfax. As always Jane is quick to form impressions in her mind which as readers we learn and can appreciate. She describes her as "the neatest imaginable little elderly lady." Which you see as quite a likeable and welcoming character. She then goes on to say "A more reassuring introduction for a new governess could scarcely be conceived." This shows the perfect setting for Jane at last, which is

Music effects our everyday lives and can almost be an incomprehensive predicament. Music today is powerful and has a lot more meaning than just sounds and words. Music is so powerful that it has the power to manipulate and influence individuals in a positive or negative way. There is so much meaning behind music the lyrics nowadays. Music can tell an artist life story, things they have been through, and even their opinion on certain views. These moods and the emotions associated with them, although often times irrational, were nonetheless extremely powerful. Emotions that powerful had to be released and expressed to the outside world. Diatomite Essay Example For Students
Diatomite Essay DIATOMITEDiatomite is a sedimentary rock, that is white and yellowish incolor. It is composed of fossilized skeletons of one-celled algae-likeplants called diatoms. It is accumulated in marine areas. TheHoneycomb sillia structure is useful because of its high absorptivecapacity and surface area. It is also very chemically stable. Itsprincipal use is filtration. This substance of diatomite is extracted from many countriesaround the world. Out of 30 world countries the largest suppliers arethe United States, China, Denmark, and Japan. China supplies about350 thousand metric tons, Denmark extracts 375 thousand metrictons, and Japan, 190 thousand metric tons. About 725 thousandmetric tons of diatomite are extracted from the US Worldwide about2,150 thousand metric tons are removed from the earth. This product consists of approximately 90 percent silica, and theremainder consists of compounds such as aluminum and iron oxides. The material is extracted by a dredging barge cuts sediment withrotating knives, mixes it with water and pumps it along a suspendedpipeline to the shore. Because diatomite is made from a skeletalstructure of diatoms, it isnt made of chemicals that need to beextracted. It is highly unreactive to other chemicals. It also has alow thermal conductivity rate and a high fusion point. Most diatomite mines are open pit mines because the depositsare usually at or near the surface. Open pit mines are especially hardon the environment because they are very large holes in the ground. Diatomite is also mined when geologic uplifting brings these depositsabove sea level. The diatomite is easily mined this way, however,being in marine areas, pollution in the water is a big concern. Through the use of many mining machines, the waters can be easilypolluted. The method of dredging to cut away at the sediment doesnot seem like it would be as environmentally friendly as well. Asidefrom the mining having impact on the actual land, diatomite mininghas impacts on birds in surrounding areas. Many birds show atendency to avoid dredging areas. Besides factors of noise andpollution and general unpleasantness of machines, birds also rely onanimals in shallow water for food where dredging has occurred. Currently there are no recycling methods for diatomite. Theeventual replacement of di atomite filters with membrane types maybe speeded by legislation regarding waste disposal, which would makethe option of dumping diatomite cake in landfill sites more expensiveor even prohibited. One environmental specification of color is put ondiatomite, because it is a calcine product. It has to be of a lightwhitish color or it is not available to be mined. This helpsenvironmentally because the color determines a standard for whatcompanies can and cannot mine. I think one way for lessening the impact on the environment,would be to work harder at developing recycling methods fordiatomite cake. If recycling could be put into use not as muchdiatomite would need to be mined. To excavate diatomite, differentcombinations of rippers, dozers, scrapers, front-end loaders, powershovels, and dump trucks are used. Underground mining is not toouncommon outside the United States. Usually, room-and-pillarmethods are used, often with equipment similar to that used in openpits; in the smallest mines, hand tools are used. Dredging is used torecover diatomaceous mud from the bottom of lakes. Since all thesemethods are used in excavation, I think the best idea would be tochoose the method with the least impact environmentally. Sixty four percent of the diatomite mined is used in filtration. Fourteen percent is used for absorbents, and twelve percent used infillers. While two percent used for insulation, and eight percent usedin other ways. Diatomite is principally used in filtration of variousalcoholic beverages, sugar, oil, organic and inorganic chemicals, andwater. .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 , .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .postImageUrl , .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 , .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858:hover , .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858:visited , .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858:active { border:0!important; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858:active , .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858 .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u29d73bd52e14eca7af8c8122d0b6d858:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Managing The Managers EssayMany materials can be substituted for diatomite. Expandedperlite and silica sand compete for filtration purposes. Other filtrationtechnologies use ceramic, polymeric, or carbon membrane. Alternatefiller materials include talc, ground silica sand, ground mica, clay,perlite, vermiculite, and ground limestone. For thermal insulationmaterials such as various clays and special brick, mineral wool,expanded perlite, and exfoliated vermiculite can be used. Conservation would mostly be attained through finding ways torecycle or more efficiently using the cake, or using substitutes for thematerial. Diatomite is an excellent filtering material for many things. Most commonly used in beverages, fruit juices, soft drinks, beer, andwine. It is used in chemicals like sodium hydroxide, sulfuric acid, andgold salts. Filtration of cooking oils, vegetable and animal, andsugars, cane, beet, and corn,
